This session aims to develop knowledge and awareness of the pathophysiology and clinical implications of diabetes, including screening, monitoring, and management in the public. 

This one-day training will be of interest to all healthcare professionals, including community-based practitioners, mental health professionals, and students on any health programmes.

Course Description

By the end of the session, you should be able to: 

  1. Develop awareness of the incidence and prevalence of diabetes 

  1. Understand the differences between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, screening and diagnosis. 

  1. Understand the role of glucose, insulin, glucagon in glycaemic control 

  1. Know what normal blood glucose levels should be; support and monitor the diabetic patient (hypo- and hyperglycaemia) 

  1. Develop awareness of complications associated with diabetes 

  1. Introduction to the drugs used in diabetic control and lifestyle management
