The aim of this study day is to develop knowledge and awareness around the screening and monitoring for cardiometabolic risk commonly presented by people with SMI 

This one-day training will be of interest to all healthcare professionals, including community-based practitioners, mental health professionals, and students on any health programmes.

Course Description

By the end of the session, you should be able to: 

  1. Describe and discuss background concerning the problem of cardiometabolic risk in SMI 

  1. Under the association between mental illness, severe mental illness and cardiometabolic risk. 

  1. Describe and discuss modifiable and non-modifiable cardiometabolic risks in SMI 

  1. Develop awareness of complications associated with cardiometabolic risk on patients’ health and wellbeing 

  1. Discuss evidence-based approaches to effective cardiometabolic risk screening and monitoring and the role of healthcare professionals
