Detailed Description
The book begins with an introductory section outlining the most significant of the factors driving a new focus on diversity. It explores the value of diversity in higher education and some of the diversity challenges facing higher education in different national settings.
The five sections that follow each focus on a specific diversity challenge for higher education institutions:
- Creating a welcoming environment for diversity
- Recruiting diverse students
- Retaining diverse students
- Collaborating to increase and sustain diversity
- Sustaining diversity
Each section contains ideas from published material and consultations with experts, together with examples of some of the policies, strategies and other initiatives that higher education institutions are using. Sources are provided in an index at the end.
A final section highlights five key messages that we hope higher education institutions will take from the many ideas presented in the book.
