Course Description

Drama and Ritual are considered to be intimately related to each other when they are applied therapeutically. Traditionally, both Ritual and Drama have served humanity during points of transition and change. It is these ideas and themes that will primarily inform this Summer School in Dramatherapy which is offered as a series of 5 experiential workshops. Participants will explore the fundamentals of Dramatherapy practice, the basic structure of a Dramatherapy session, clinical applications, and creative explorations into the role of a Dramatherapist.

The focus for the week is on exploring dramatic creativity and self expression as a potential therapeutic intervention and the group will work with an established story and progress into an exploration of the personal identification we can have with such stories – and what they ‘hold’ for us. As well as individuals seeking an introduction to Dramatherapy in preparation to apply for professional training, this Dramatherapy Summer School will be of interest to anyone working in the fields of Drama, Theatre and Performance wishing to deepen their understanding of the potential therapeutic properties of their craft.
