AI for People Professionals: Practical GenAI, Workflows and Responsible Adoption

This six-week evening course is designed for HR, Learning & Development and Organisational Development practitioners who want to build confidence using AI tools in a safe, practical and people-centred way. Across six Wednesday evenings, participants will develop an applied understanding of generative AI, non-generative AI and workflow/agentic approaches, and how these can support day-to-day people workwhile also learning how to manage risk, quality, fairness and governance in real organisational settings.

Course Description

The programme is highly interactive and hands-on. Each session combines short inputs with guided practice using realistic HR/L&D/OD tasks such as drafting and improving communications, structuring policies and guidance, designing learning resources, analysing feedback and planning change activity. You will learn proven techniques for prompting, verifying outputs and grounding content in trusted organisational sources, as well as how to evaluate “AI-enabled” HR and learning technologies with a clear, practical scorecard. The course also explores how AI is reshaping task design and skill needs, including implications for early-career roles, workforce planning, and reskilling. 

From Week 3, participants will work in pairs or small groups on a mini project. Teams will choose a workplace challenge and develop a simple prototype or workflow (such as an HR service response triage process, a learning design pipeline, a communications pack generator or a policy support tool), complete with proposed controls (human-in-the-loop checks, data boundaries, approval steps and audit considerations). Projects will be shared in a supportive showcase in Week 6, alongside individual 30/60/90-day plans for applying learning back in the workplace.

  • Safe and responsible use: confidentiality, data boundaries, bias and quality assurance 

  • Prompting and verification techniques, plus grounding outputs in trusted sources 

  • Practical document, slide and spreadsheet workflows to improve productivity and consistency 

  • The HR/L&D/OD technology landscape (HRIS, ATS, HR service, LMS/LXP, engagement, analytics) and how to assess tools and vendor claims 

  • Work redesign and future skills: task decomposition, role repurposing, early-career pipeline impacts, and reskilling strategies 

  • Governance and policy essentials, including controls for bots and automated workflows 

  • Group project design and prototyping, culminating in a Week 6 showcase and implementation planning
