Introduction to Deep ListeningInfo Location Course Information![]() June 28th (On-Campus)Created by pioneering composer and sound artist Pauline Oliveros, Deep Listening is a unique practice that enables people to distinguish between hearing—an automatic process—and listening, which requires active attention and awareness. In this course, students will engage in a variety of listening exercises and interactive sound-making, exploring the sounds of everyday life, nature, personal thoughts, and imagination, as well as the dynamics of community. Through Deep Listening, students will develop a deeper awareness of both the sounds around them and their internal sonic experiences. This practice encourages creativity, experimentation, and collaboration, helping participants to think outside the box, play freely, and engage meaningfully with others. Deep Listening is more than just a method for experiencing sound—it is a technique for personal and collective development, fostering both individual expression and collaboration in a shared creative space.
