Dramatherapists work in a variety of settings including mental health, training centres, education, prison and probation, childcare and private practice. This workshop is an exploration of the ritual theatre model of Dramatherapy taught at Roehampton. Working from a humanistic experiential approach to the day this workshop will include work with theatre skills, creativity, imagination and personal expression.

Intended Audience

This course is open to all those interested in finding out about Dramatherapy. Roehampton University offers post graduate professional training in dramatherapy. Our graduate students go on to work in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, social services departments, special education, prisons and the voluntary sector.

Outcomes

Participants will gain an insight into Dramatherapy, its therapeutic application and the professional training course provided at Roehampton.

On campus course presented by Patricia Ojehonmon

Patricia Ojehonmon is a Dramatherapist, Storyteller, Children’s Author and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Roehampton. She is based in London.  

She holds a BA Drama & Education from Central School of Speech, and Drama and an MA Dramatherapy from the University of Roehampton and has undertaken additional training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).  She is registered with HCPC and is a full member of British Association of Dramatherapists (BADth).  

She currently works as a dramatherapist for Wandsworth CAMHs providing a Trauma Informed Approach to children, young people, parent’s, carers, and families. She consults with primary and secondary schools to deliver a whole school approach to Mental Health and Wellbeing, with a special remit to engage with communities that are marginalised in society where there are barriers and stigmas to accessing Mental Health Services.

Maia Gibbs is a Dramatherapist, Actor, Director and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Roehampton, based in London.  

Maia trained as an actor at RADA, after which she worked in theatre as an actor and director for a number of years, before qualifying as a Dramatherapist from the University of Roehampton. She now specialises in work with looked after and adopted children and adolescents, as well as their families and carers, in an NHS Child and Adolescent service for Looked After and Adopted Children in Lewisham.
