Course Description

Aims: The aims of the workshop are to understand and develop skills in using photography therapeutically.

Learning outcomes: To understand four approaches in using photographs therapeutically in order to assist emotional learning; to know the results of research projects indicating the advantages and disadvantages of using photographs for emotional learning in general practice, schools, prisons and management development.

Rationale: The rationale of this workshop is that the use of photographs can provide a very helpful aide to the therapeuticprocesses. Furthermore, clients are increasingly familiar with photographs in our digital age.

What participants will gain: Participants attending the workshop will be able to: distinguish phototherapy from therapeutic photography and understand the history of their development; be familiar with research in its use in general practice as well as in education, prisons and management development; understand the therapeutic use of photographs using photocards, producing photobooks, developing employability, and ‘selfies’/portraiture; and, develop their skills in the therapeutic use of photographs.
