Based on the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française and the Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française are awarded by the French Ministry of Education. They are the only official French language proficiency qualifications. Whether for professional use, to recession-proof your CV or simply for your own personal benefit, if you study French and want a proof of your level of proficiency, why not take a DELF or DALF examination?
The DELF / DALF comprise a choice of 6 independent units corresponding to 6 levels from basic to independent (DELF) and then to proficient (DALF):
You can choose the unit that is most suited to your level — no need to sit all the levels one by one. There is no access test either.
Each unit tests the four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. The exam takes place on one or two day’s maximum, and when you pass; you receive a diploma which is valid for life. Because your diploma corresponds to a level from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, you can safely state your level of proficiency in French in a resume with the guarantee that it will be understood throughout Europe and beyond.
The DELF focuses on language skills, and the ability to communicate. The specificity of the DALF is a focus on analytical skills and structured argumentation as well as language proficiency. The DALF C1 qualification is the required gateway to the most prestigious French universities and higher education centres for admission of foreign students.
